Smashin' Transistors 63: Through clouds like ashes

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is most likely best known for joyful and genial poems. The one he wrote for the shortest month of the year, Afternoon In February, as not one of those though. As a matter of fact, it was about death.

Amid the grayness of the skies and all the things wrapped in it though here in the Great Lakes, slogging through it has to be done. Putting together another episode of this fake radio show a bit like setting a fire at such times for yours truly.

What you'll hear:
Dirty Filthy Mud – The Forest Of Black
Quintron – Birthday In Tunisa
The Beauticians – Mental Hygene
-words from your host-
Red Mass – Young Lover
the Ponys – Little Friends
Confusion - Ya No Voy A Pensar En Nada Más
Gino & the Goons – Wrote You A Letter
-words from your host-

Brick Distributor -Another Personality

November 2019 Mixclouder of the Month: Signal To Noise

Terrestrial college and indie stations seem going off the air for good at a clip faster than ever. It also seems that just as many of them are blanding out their formats to automated and syndicated programming to appease squares. Finding ones out there that still have real live humans who come in share their music taste and knowledge with a listening audience are great fun.

The Signal To Noise program one of those "great fun" kinds of things I am talking about. On Sunday nights from 11pm til 2am on Teaneck, NJ's 89.1 WFDU FM, Al C presents loud, snotty indie guitar rock, in-studio interviews, and the occasional live performance.

Smashin' Transistors 57: The Dangers Of Really Hard Drugs

September 2019 Mixclouder of the Month: The Institute of Spectra-Sonic Sound

Our first two Mixclouders of the month dealt in a louder and rowdier side of music. This month, it's something a bit more cerebral.

Based out of Euguene, Oregon and airing weekly on KEPW 97.3 FM, David Warmbier's Institute of Spectra-Sonic Sound is a journey into experimental sounds guaranteed to vibrate, chill and, at times, disturb the musical lobes of your mind.

Smashin' Podsistors 54: What If Juggalos Weren’t Allowed Their Faygo?

On a scorcher of a summer day recently I had the thirst for a pop. A really sugary one. A Faygo Red Pop or Rock-n-Rye was on my mind. The party store I stopped in didn't carry any Faygo. Is that even legal in the state of Michigan?

August 2019 Mixclouder Of The Month: Cat Nouveau

Though the Cat Nouveau show originates out of Portugal, he scours the planet for the rudest, wildest and sickest rock-n-roll sounds.

A violently kaleidoscopic whirl of new punk rock and the latest garage rock from all over the world is what's served up. What's that weird flavor of the colors you're tasting? Well, it's either blood or cyanide!

Smashin' Podsistors 53: Head's In A Haze

Like a heatwave. Amid the one we had the past week, one way to keep cool was to find a big shade tree to sit under and put together a fake radio show. Or, at least, portions of one. That's what we did for a bit here at ol' Smashy T's. Any gaffes on this episode were caused by wooziness of sunspots.

July 2019 Mixclouder of the Month: The Village Subway

Starting a new thing here on Smashin' Transistors where we spotlight on a show on Mixcloud that we dig a lot. If you are not familiar with Mixcloud it's an online music streaming service that allows for the listening and distribution of radio shows, DJ mixes and podcasts. There are tons of people producing content and uploading it daily on to the site. Actual humans putting sets of music together instead of computerized systems or algorithms. What a concept, right?

For our first voyage into doing this, we shine a light on the Village Subway.

Hosted by David Schwentker, the Village Subway originates live on Monday nights from 8-9pm on Raleigh, North Carolina's online station littleraleighradio.org.

Encompassing a vast variety of loud, wild and twitchy sounds, Dave describes his musical selections as Underground Rock. There hasn't been an episode of the show yet where I haven't gotten turned on to something really good that I haven't heard before.
